What is a Lucida engagement ring?
The Lucida setting is a term some people use to describe the X-prong or cross-over settings for engagement rings. Some jewellers refer to this crossover design as a Trellis setting. The design provides support for a diamond with claws or prongs supported at the intersection where the claws cross. As a result, there is no need for a supporting under-bezel below the setting provided the claws are substantial. For our suggested designs below, owing to the finer claws, we add a small under bezel for strength and support.
Tiffany & Co. introduced the Tiffany Lucida engagement ring now discontinued, replaced by "Tiffany True"—inspired by the original Lucida engagement ring.
The meaning of Lucida
The name refers to the brightest star in any particular constellation. At the same time, the name derives from the latin word for "clear." The design has led to a great deal of popularity in this style of diamond engagement rings in recent years.

Ring design variations with the X-Prong style
We create many variations and designs to hold most diamond shapes. For example, the traditional round brilliant-cut diamond. In addition, the Princess cut with its square proportions. Additional diamond shapes include the Emerald cut, Asscher cut, and Cushion cut. In fact, all such diamond shapes suit the Lucida setting style.
We have a selection of designs with sweeping cross-over claw settings. Diamond sparkle in refined four claw settings to maximising the simplicity— characteristic of Tiffany ring styles. As a result, light enters the stone, maximising the brilliance with dramatic effect.
Lucida ring mounts without the diamond
As part of our service, we provide most of our ring designs as finished mounts to accommodate your own diamond. Please contact us for help to ensure we provide the correct ring mount or setting size for your diamond. We provide the finished ring mount. In addition, we offer several optional services. For example, unsetting your existing diamond from a current ring design. At the same time, we also provide setting for your new diamond. Finally, we offer inward insurance if you send your diamond for us to set.
